Rantasalmi / Järvisydän Hotel & Spa Resort

The story of this resort is pretty fascinating and holds a huge historical importance: travel services have been available in Porosalmi since 1658, when the Russian Czar and King of Sweden agreed that Carelian marked ice roads running through Finland should’ve been built.

At the time, places for feeding horses and accommodation for travelers were required at 30 km intervals. The head of the Heiskanen family was granted 600 hectares of land in gratitude for his exemplary military service, and in return he was obligated to open an Inn to serve travelers’ needs.

Markus Heiskanen, the current entrepreneur running the Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän (in English, “heart of the lake”) represents the 11th generation of the Heiskanen family who has run the inn.

The lake spa is the most ecological of its type in Finland. It is based off a 1500 square meters cave, created inside a cliff by the lake and built using natural stone slabs and 500 year old snags. The spa also includes several types of saunas (infrared sauna, stone sauna, wood sauna), as well as the “silent room”, a hydro massage pool, an outdoor pool which is filled directly from the lake, two salt rooms and a small pool designated for children.

The building hosts an hotel with 68 beds, villas with 118 beds and spa suites with 54 beds!

Järvisydän is not just about the spa, though! You can enjoy amazing lake cruises daily, all year round… you might get the chance to meet some ringed seals, which live in large quantity in this area!

The resort offers a variety of activities customized for everyone, based on the best elements offered by the season (fishing, lake cruises…). It also hosts a big restaurant, opened everyday 8 am-10 pm, with over 1200 seats!

If you’re into nature and you also like to take some time alone to relax, then you should definitely visit Järvisydän! For more info visit their website (www.jarvisydan.fi)
